How do you balance alternative treatments with metastatic breast cancer care?

Hi. Im new to this app, have been looking for support but mainly doing it on my own (with hope and good wishes from family and friends 🧡) But they don't live daily with metastatic breast cancer. I was diagnosed @ August 31, 2020. Original oncologist & her team the whole time. I trust them. I've had various chemo treatments, starting with Ibrance in 2020 through starting injections late fall of 2025. What has changed is that I have been trying to take a special tea of 6 ounces 3 times a day every day for at least 6 months consistently. Life gets in the way. My oncologist thinks this to take for me.

My oncologist thinks this tea is safe to take. My primary care doctor thinks so too. That's where I'm at in my hopeful recovery. Trying to keep a positive attitude and incorporating conventional methods along with some alternative methods. Checking in with my doctors. Now I am more than ready to listen to and possibly share with other cancer patients. Thanks for listening!!

Finding the right balance between conventional treatments and complementary approaches is a common consideration many in this community navigate. Open communication with your oncology team about all the treatments you're exploring is really valuable, as they can help assess how different approaches might work together safely. Many find that having honest conversations about their interest in complementary options helps build a collaborative care plan. Others in this community may have helpful experiences to share about discussing alternative treatments with their medical teams while managing metastatic breast cancer.

Christine, welcome to our community. Knowledge is power. I have learned a lot during my journey. I advocate for myself with my oncologist. This app has wonderful education tools to help you navigate your journey. Try to complete your profile to get good information about your specific cancer. The NCCN guidelines have been spot on with my oncologist. The symptom tracker is a great tool to remind you to tell your oncologist. A positive attitude is so important. Keep it up. I'll be praying for you to be progression free for many years.
