I'm about 2 months post bilateral mastectomy. I thought I'd be getting back to life by now but my energy and stamina is still very bad I go to the gym and Walk on the treadmill on a small incline to get my heart rate up for about a half an hour and it wipes me out for like 3 hours after when I get home I just crash it's causing me to be very sad and emotional and my partner is kind of expecting me to be well again right now and I'm not And it's just really hard

Recovery after major surgery like this varies greatly from person to person, and feeling wiped out at two months is completely normal - your body is still healing from a significant procedure. The emotional toll of not feeling like yourself yet, especially when others expect you to bounce back quickly, can be just as exhausting as the physical recovery itself. Many people find it helpful to have open conversations with their healthcare team about realistic recovery timelines and to connect with others who truly understand this journey.

Hi Delores, it takes time to recover. I remember when walking just a few steps took a lot of effort. You should be able to discuss your progress with your breast surgeon and see where you are compared to where they think you should be. If possible, have your partner go with you to your follow up appointments. They need a reality check if they think this journey is a walk in the park. Stay strong, you will get through this!

I am 4 weeks post bilateral mastectomy. Some days I’m fine other days I’m exhausted. Some nights I sleep great other nights I get 2-4hrs. I am on meds for neurolathic nerve pain which also help with sleep therefore I’m a bit concerned. Being a traumatic brain injury survivor neurodivergent (neurological disabilities) and minorly physically disabled I am worried. Plus I will be starting tamoxifen to prevent recurrance in May or June.
