Is brain fog normal after a cancer diagnosis?

I found out 2 1/2 weeks ago about my cancer. This is my second go around on the same breast. The first bout was 26 years ago. I have seen the surgeon and plastic surgeon, have started the genetic testing, and had a CT and bone scan. I am waiting on the testing CT and bone scan results. Surgery is scheduled for May 22. My mind is kind of foggy. Is this common?

Brain fog after a cancer diagnosis is very common and understandable given everything happening right now. The stress of a new diagnosis, along with all the appointments and waiting for test results, can definitely affect concentration and mental clarity. Many people in the cancer community experience similar feelings during this overwhelming time, so know that these reactions are normal and you're not alone in this experience.

I was diagnosed with esophageal junction cancer on March 6 after a routine EGD for approval for bariatric surgery. I have seen more doctors and been in more hospitals in the last 11 weeks than I’ve been in my entire 60+ years. I’ve had a CT. PET Scan, EUS and on April 22, I had an ESD that too 3 hours. Three margins came back clean. The section of the tumor that was abutting the esophagus came back with residual cancer. My staging (to date) is T1a-bN0M0. On Monday, May 18, I’m having aan esophagectomy. The removing about a third of my esophagus and 75% of my stomach. Waiting for pathology after the surgery is going to be stressful. I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you continue your journey.
