Hello I was diagnosed last month in june. I already knew what it was cause i had adenoid cystic carcinoma of the jaw just 5 years earlier and now its traveled down to my left lung. I am scared. Im only 26 and in so much pain. I use hydrocodone and morphine to keep my pain at a base level of 5 and im scared this will only get worse. I should start treatment soon but insurance has already rejected one of my treatments…. How do i keep going. I see my parents face they look scared and my partner is scared of touching me in fear that i might just break like a porcelain doll. What are some pain management techniques you guys have or use? Im glad to be in a community of people who are also going through this. I feel like i dont have to hide how much pain im in.

Thank you for being so open about what you're going through - this community is here to support you through these difficult challenges. Many community members have found helpful pain management approaches like heat/cold therapy, gentle breathing exercises, meditation apps, massage, and working closely with pain specialists who understand cancer-related pain. Advocating for yourself with insurance can be exhausting, but don't hesitate to ask your medical team's social workers for help navigating those challenges - they often know strategies that can make a difference.

Hi Kiki. Thank you so much for trusting us with your story. I can only imagine how overwhelming and isolating it must feel to be in this kind of pain while facing such a serious diagnosis at just 26. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. You’re not alone here. Many of us understand what it’s like to have treatment plans delayed by insurance, to feel the fear we see in our loved ones’ eyes, or to struggle with the weight of pain that doesn’t let up. You’re right that this community is a place where you don’t have to hide any of that. I’m going to link a couple of relevant blog posts below in case they might be helpful. Pain management is so personal, but if it hasn’t happened yet it’s worth asking for a referral to a palliative care specialist, not because you’re giving up, but because they are experts at helping manage pain and improve quality of life alongside treatment. You’re not fragile you are navigating something incredibly difficult with so much grace. Sending so much compassion your way. 💛Suzanne (Community Moderator) https://outcomes4me.com/article/when-and-why-to-choose-palliative-care-during-cancer-treatment/ When and why to choose palliative care during cancer treatment - Outcomes4Me https://outcomes4me.com/article/8-tips-for-navigating-a-denied-cancer-health-insurance-claim/ 8 Tips For Navigating Cancer Treatment Denied By Health Insurance

All the best to you!!! You gonna get through this and you will be back stronger and will enjoy your life again to your fullest!!! I was diagnosed with lung cancer in March 2025, what a nightmare!!! Never smoked in my entire life, a professional athlete and found out about my cancer when I started coughing.I’m devastated but already in treatments like the horrible chemotherapy, immunotherapy, proton radiation.I’m stage 4 so will be a long journey for me but we all have to have hope and think of the best!!! You have your whole life ahead of you and you will succeed!!! God bless all of us!!!

Hi Kiki, I'm so sorry that you are going through all of this at your age. I had my lung cancer surgery 6 years ago but was told by my oncologist from day one that I would be in pain for the rest of my life. I am on oxycodone/ acetaminophen, carisoprodol, gabapentin. I also use ice packs and heating pads. I alternate with the heat and ice, depending on the day and how I feel. I only use thermophore heating pads. They give off moist heat but get really hot, so be careful if you use it. (I don't like the heating pads that you wet a sponge and put it on the pad. I don't feel the moisture)
