Can ovarian cancer come back in stomach and bowel area?

I had ovarian cancer in 2022 with a complete hysterectomy and 6 cycles of carboplatin and taxill. I now have a tumor on my stomach and near my bowels with enlarged lymph nodes. No biopsy was done because the tumors can’t be reached. One is near a large vein and the other near my bowels. My CA-125 numbers are going up too. 6 cycles of chemo start this Wednesday with Avastin Has anyone had bad side affects from Avastin?

Ovarian cancer can unfortunately spread to other areas of the abdomen, including the stomach and bowel regions, which is why ongoing monitoring and treatment are so important. Many community members have shared experiences with Avastin, and while side effects can vary from person to person, having an open conversation with your care team about what to expect can help you prepare and manage any symptoms that might arise. Your strength in facing this next phase of treatment is evident, and this community is here to support you through the journey ahead.

I’ve been on Avastin alone since 2/2024 and really haven’t had any bad side effects. I do still have very little taste or appetite and some neuropathy but could still be from the chemo I started 7/2023. I couldn’t take Taxol so Avastin was the 3rd drug. Lynparza made my legs swell terribly in February 2026 so for now I’m staying on Avastin and I’m lucky that it seems to be working to keep my cancer away. Wishing you the very best.

The side affects i gave had include hoarseness in my throat which is not a common side affects and some joint pain mainly fingers and hips sometimes knees. Those affects were more noticeable after I was done with chemo and still taking Avastin as a maintenance drug.

So sorry you are going through this. I had stage three ovarian cancer, total hysterectomy, six cycles of carbo and taxo . Pet scan clean after chemotherapy. Then they put me on Avastin and I’ve had eight cycles of Avastin one treatment every three weeks.they say I will be in the Avastin for 2 years. I have had side effects like the chemotherapy. Complete fatigue, brain fog, nausea, mouth sores , headaches and more. I do have lots of other diseases which probably make my side effects worse. I hope you do well on the Avastin. Please write anytime!! Stay well ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Lannie

Hi. I had mainly diarrhea but that was also because I had too much chemo within a short time. Once my platelets, white/red cell counts back to normal I was fine. Now for some reason I have no sores but my mouth burns sometimes and I’m losing hair again. These are not supposed to be side effects from Avastin. But if that’s the worst issues I’ve had in 3 years, I’ll take them. I’m staying on Avastin since it’s doing what it should be doing or I’m extremely lucky. I’m starting back to work 8/10 when school starts again. I still debate retiring (79 1/2 years old now) but I don’t like staying home all the time. 9 weeks during the summer was great though. Wishing you all the best.

I'm sorry you're facing this after everything you've already been through. Many of our patients who have received Avastin have reported side effects such as fatigue, high blood pressure, muscle or joint aches, mouth sores, and sometimes brain fog, although everyone's experience is different. Some people tolerate it quite well, while others need supportive care or treatment adjustments to help manage the side effects. I hope your treatment goes as smoothly as possible, and I encourage you to let your oncology team know about any new or worsening symptoms as soon as they occur. Wishing you the very best with your first infusion on Wednesday. If you ever feel you'd like a second opinion or want to discuss your treatment options with our team, we'd be happy to help. Sending you strength and hoping for a good response to treatment.
