Many people in this community have shared experiences with transperineal biopsies, and pain levels can vary from person to person - some report mild discomfort while others find it more manageable than expected. The choice between general and local anesthesia often depends on your specific situation and what your medical team recommends based on your health profile, so discussing your concerns about pain management with your doctor will help you make the best decision for your comfort during the procedure.

I asked to be put under during mine. I had blood in my urine and slight pain and discomfort for a couple of weeks.

I’ve had 4 since 2021. One to diagnose and 3 to follow up post treatments. 1 TULSA and 1 HIFU (had small area of recurrence after TULSA). Had local anesthesia each time. For me there was very brief 1-2 seconds stabbing sensation with each 12-16 individual needle biopsy samplings per biopsy session mild to moderate but not severe. Post procedures I would have bloody urine usually a couple days to a week. Had blood in semen a few times which resolved in short order.

I had TULSA done at Stanford 11./21. Only a few medical centers were doing the procedure at that time. I have Medicare and Blue ross secondary. My procedure was covered and I received no bill from Stanford. I am enrolled in a research program at Stanford and not sure if this had anything to do with billing but I don’t think so as Stanford never mentioned anything about it. I have subsequently had a HIFU procedure 8/25 for small area of recurrence and never received a bill and seemed like Medicare and my secondary Blue Cross covered both procedures. They are different but similar procedures.
