Radiation proctitis can indeed occur as a side effect of radiation treatment for prostate cancer, and while it's not extremely common, you're certainly not alone in experiencing this concern. Many community members have faced various post-treatment effects, and sharing experiences about these challenges can be really valuable for others who might be going through something similar or wondering what to expect.

After 45 days/81 Gys of IMRT, I experienced gross hematuria and rectal bleeding the same weekend. Relying on recall, that weekend was more than 12 months after the end of radiation. The literature confirms delayed effects of radiation. Radiation cystitis caused the former. As I had no recent hemorrhoid problems, radiation probably caused the latter. I was scoped in the bladder for the former diagnosis. FYI: high dose radiation can cause urethral strictures. A Colo was done for the latter. A hemi was banded. Strictures were addressed. All good now. I would endure it all again because of the benefits of high dose radiation in time to recurrence and overall survival. Jell spacers were not used or discussed. Treatment of strictures is a whole other subject, but just something to be aware of.

I’ve finished radiation last May. My lost year. I’ve had to get two prudundal nerve blocks. Pain was better but still bleeding. Had two colonoscopy to stop. Still needed a surgery to stop. I think it worked Remember I could have stopped and died. Keep love to your brothers and sisters and love jah with your whole heart, soul and mind.
