a month agoI was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and learning about genomic tests like Decipher that can help guide treatment decisions. From what I understand, this test looks at 22 genes in the cancer tissue to better understand how aggressive my specific cancer might be. It seems like it provides additional information beyond PSA levels and Gleason scores to help decide between active surveillance, surgery, radiation, or other treatments. The test gives a score that puts patients into low, intermediate, or high risk categories based on the cancer's biology. I'd love to hear from others who have been through this decision-making process. • Did you have genomic testing done, and how did it influence your treatment choice? • What questions did you ask your doctor when deciding between different treatment options? Is there a blood test that will show type of cancer Link: https://outcomes4me.com/article/what-is-the-decipher-test-and-how-does-it-guide-prostate-cancer-treatment/

a month agoGenomic testing like Decipher can provide valuable additional information beyond traditional markers to help guide treatment decisions, and many community members have found it helpful in understanding their cancer's specific characteristics. The questions about treatment options and blood tests for cancer detection are important ones to discuss with your oncology team, as they can explain how genomic testing results might apply to your specific situation and help you weigh the pros and cons of different treatment approaches.

a month agoMy insurance denied Decipher test. I have very aggressive and high risk prostate cancer with gleason score of 8. I'm too old for surgery and went with radiation with taking orgovitz, abiraterone and prednisone. Doctor recommended this treatment and said I should get another 10 years. I'm 79 now.

20 days agoMy urologist uses Decipher for borderline cases that are candidates for active surveillance v treatment. As a Gleason 9, I was not a candidate for Decipher, though did have genetic testing looking for germline mutations that might guide treatment and inform my children of cancer risk.

5 days agoI'm 64 with diagnosis of prostate cancer January 2025 after initial pre-op PSA 10.3 Status post-radical prostatectomy with undetectable PSA for almost one year. PSA then became detectable 0.02 and 3 months later PSA was 0.04 My decipher score was 0.97 placing me at extremely high risk. I was diagnosed at stage 3A after the prostatectomy. I'm scheduled for sRT in June. The high decipher score is driving my decision to now proceed with sRT. My concern was achieving urinary incontinence as much as possible and undergoing vacuum-assisted penile rehab in advance of the radiation therapy. We all know radiation can cause worsening of incontinence and ED overtime. Delaying RT and allowing for return of continence is a good choice if possible.
