How do you manage chemo treatments when you're going through it alone?

Hi I’m Michael. I have visited earlier. I’m alone and I don’t recommend it even if my doctors say I can. I lost my wife 3 months prior and nobody to help. So I’m getting ready to do my 4th treatment of chemo. You learn what you need bedside and on good days get busy with laundry and shopping for food stuff you need because the next treatment will be worse. I usually don’t eat solid food for the 10 plus days after chemo and I try to make up later for 8 days and then back to chemo. I wish you all the best and less pain I’m going through. Love you all !

Going through treatment without a support system presents unique challenges that many in this community understand. Building a routine around treatment days - like stocking up on essentials during stronger days and having easy-to-digest foods readily available - shows incredible strength and planning. Consider reaching out to local support services, online communities, or even asking your medical team about resources that might help make this journey a bit easier.

Hi Michael, Just know that you are not alone. After my diagnosis I have spoken to men about prostate cancer and there are many of us dealing with this diagnosis. Also know that I am here for you. Let me know what you would like to talk about and we can talk.

Thank you Paul, I just finished my 3rd chemotherapy and it was hell, I almost called 911 due to dehydration and not being able to get around. I went for my visit prior to my 4th chemotherapy and she said she’s cutting back on my chemo dose so I don’t end up in the hospital. What hurt was she said that we are not curing you and we just need to keep your numbers down. I knew it but it just hit me when she said it. A reality check in the gut. I’m in the 4th day of my 4th treatment and I feel it but it’s not nearly as bad as the last one. I really hate the way my life is ending up.

Hi Michael, I have had much experience with cancers and treatments during my lifetime. Not only myself but with loved ones. I can tell you to just hang in. I have experienced and seen amazing recoveries with therapy of all types. Better days will come for you. Sounds like you are going in a positive direction despite what you may feel right now. Paul

Hi Paul, My Oncologist had to remind me that they can’t cure me the day before my 4th chemotherapy. I’m focusing on my mental recovery of the loss of my wife. I miss her so badly I still cry several times a day. I so love her! I may die of a broken heart before cancer.

It’s just so fresh. It was a sudden death this March and I was diagnosed in early June, we were together 19 years as best friends. I can’t picture being with somebody else at this time. I’m kinda isolated with this stupid cancer thing going on with more chemotherapy and surgery with 28 days of radiation. I appreciate your support and I think time will heal.
