How do you monitor for prostate cancer return after surgery?

My doctor is discussing several options for monitoring whether my prostate cancer has returned after surgery. These include bone and soft tissue imaging like PSMA-PET scans to check for cancer spread, a possible prostate bed biopsy to look for cancer cells in the surgical area, and risk stratification based on my PSA levels and other factors. There's also the option of observation with regular check-ups rather than more intensive monitoring. I'm trying to understand what to expect with these different approaches and would love to hear from others who've been in similar situations. • What was your experience with follow-up monitoring after prostate surgery? • If you had imaging or biopsy procedures, what helped you prepare or manage the process?

Post-surgery monitoring plans can feel overwhelming with all the different options available. Many community members find it helpful to discuss the pros and cons of each approach with their medical team, considering factors like their specific situation and personal preferences for how closely they want to monitor. Others have shared that connecting with fellow patients who've navigated similar monitoring decisions can provide valuable insights about what to expect with different procedures and how to mentally prepare for follow-up care.
