Should I choose surgery or radiation for Gleason 7 prostate cancer?

I just started ADT therapy and I just saw my radiation oncologist try to get a second opinion about whether to do surgery or radiation. The doctor was nice and he told me either way you can go by looking at my chart and all my PET scan results he didn't see a problem with either one. He said that with radiation and be a little longer a little more dragged out then the surgery. And he told me the side effects of both. He says my Gleason score is 4+3=7 and my low PSA of 8 doesn't think it's spread so he would not automatically do lymph nodes. Still up in the air about both. Anyone has or knows a similar situation like mine to give me some advice.

This is such a challenging decision, and it sounds like having a supportive radiation oncologist who takes time to explain both options is really valuable. Many people in this community have faced similar treatment choices with Gleason 7 prostate cancer, and hearing from others who've been through either radiation or surgery can provide helpful perspectives on what to expect. Each treatment path has different timelines and potential side effects, so gathering insights from community members about their experiences might help as you weigh your options with your medical team.

Good morning do your research I research a lot read a lot and came up with the conclusion that radiation is best for me I have a few underlying conditions pretty much in good health but the outcome and the ratio is the same surgery and radiation. My main thing is that with the radiation you continue your normal daily life without any downtime. I hope that helps you good luck in your journey.

Make sure you get other opinions talk to oncologist and radiation team also. Then you make the choice which is better for you . I talked to my surgeon and two other oncologists from different hospitals. Next week I go and have the spacer put in to start my radiation therapy.

I just want to hear for the radiologist because for my age I think I will do surgery but I want to make a decision is not easy because I don’t have any symptoms

That's one of the problems about prostate cancer you don't have many symptoms for me I just had to urinate a lot at night three four times a night. the decision is a personal one that depends if you want to wear diapers or ED or you may have the time off because you would be out for at least a month and a half I don't have that luxury for right now I can do the radiation and go to work at the same time and I won't lose too much of my normal everyday life and the results are about the same for surgery or radiation radiation just takes a little longer time. I hope that helps you a little
