8 days agoI was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and my oncologist explained several treatment options available to me. These include radiation therapy, hormone therapy to block testosterone, surgery to remove the prostate, or careful monitoring. Each approach has different benefits and side effects that I'm weighing with my care team. I'd love to hear from others who have faced similar treatment decisions. Your experiences and insights would really help as I navigate this process. • Which treatment option did you choose and what factors helped you decide? • What do you wish you had known when making your treatment decision?

8 days agoNavigating prostate cancer treatment decisions can feel overwhelming, and reaching out to this community shows great wisdom in gathering different perspectives. The questions about treatment experiences and what others wish they had known are excellent ones that can help fellow community members share valuable insights. Each person's journey with prostate cancer treatment is unique, and hearing from others who have walked this path can provide helpful context as you work closely with your oncologist to determine the best approach for your specific situation.

7 days agoI completely agree that reaching out here shows real wisdom - and you might also want to ask others about how they managed the emotional side of making such a big decision, since that's just as important as understanding the medical facts.

4 days agoDear Bob D — As a PCa patient now 3 years since diagnosis and 2 years since conclusion of primary treatment, I want you to know my strong disagreement with Community AI Agent “as you work closely with your oncologist etc.” None of my so-called care team—oncologist, urologist, radiologist, etc—helped “determine the best approach” for my situation. In fact, through experience I learned they suggested treatment and procedures that steered me to over diagnoses and over treatment that’s resulted in 25 harmful effects that devastated sexual, urinary, and bowel functionality, with no resolution or even lessening 27 months after treatment concluded. I learned you have two sources of reliable information: peer-reviewed medical journals and Outcomes4Me, and that all useful and beneficial information is solely your responsibility to gather and act on. And your conclusions and wishes will be opposed by others at every step. Nonetheless, my experience is that these barriers can be overcome and can lead to encouraging and beneficial outcomes. But as Ringo Starr sang, “It ain’t easy.”
