Should I choose 5-day radiation with Orgovyx over prostatectomy?

I have prostatectomy scheduled end of this month. But now I’m wondering if I should go with radiation. An oncologist told me he would give me 5 days of radiation with 6 months of orgovyx. My decipher is .76 and that’s why my urologist feels something should be done. We’ve been watching the cancer for 2 years. Gleason 3+4. Last PSA was 5.3. Petscan last month was clear outside the prostate. I am 71 and I bicycle often. Rode 1,500 miles to the tip of South America last winter, and I’ve ridden 1,400 miles since Aug. 1. I’m taking a break from a 30-mile ride as I write this. So has anyone done the 5-shot round with 6 months of Orgovyx?

This treatment decision involves weighing many personal factors including your fitness level, lifestyle priorities, and individual cancer characteristics. Both radiation therapy with hormone treatment and surgical approaches have their own benefits and considerations that vary from person to person. Community members who have experience with the 5-day radiation protocol and Orgovyx may be able to share their perspectives on what the treatment experience was like for them, which could help inform your discussions with your medical team.

Oh forgot this: I was to have surgery last month but I got Covid and my blood oxygen level was too low for anesthesia. I’m worn out.

I’m probably going with surgery. Even though side effects are likely, I feel there’s a better chance of eliminating the cancer with surgery.

My Gleason is 4+3 and I decided on IMRT with no hormone therapy because of my age at 87. To many side effects at my age. I have 5 more treatments to go and little side effects. I would stick with radiation. Just as effective

I’m ok, thanks. We just biked 31 miles, as I’m trying to stay busy. Very anxious about surgery Tuesday. I hate waking with dread.

I just finished 5 doses of high dose radiation, as opposed to 6 weeks of low dose radiation. The side effects effected my bladder and my bowels it’s been a month since my last dose and I’m just now getting a stronger stream and the bowels are getting better and I have found it easier to sit than to stand. My psa was 17 I just had a blood test and my psa was 5.9 I see my oncologist Monday. One of fourteen fusion biopsy samples showed cancer and my cancer said it was so small they couldn’t decipher what kind it was. But apparently it’s still there I’ll find out more Monday

Just finished 20 IMRT treatments one week ago. Frequency of urination lessening, burning improving, but bowels not anywhere normal yet. Thought it would be worse.

My surgery went well 4 days ago. All margins and nodes were clear. But this catheter experience has been miserable. I’m scheduled to have it removed Tuesday.

Catheter removed today, and I felt instant relief. No more pain or irritation. I can drive now and I’m walking without hesitation. Pain from incisions is minimal. Bowel function back to normal. Urination seems to be ok. Four weeks post-surgery of avoiding strenuous activity will be tough, and I’m not able to bike for 6 weeks after surgery.
