Intimacy challenges are incredibly common, especially when dealing with health concerns that can affect energy levels and physical comfort. Communication with your partner about your needs and limitations is essential - having an open conversation about finding ways to maintain closeness that work for both of you might help you navigate this together. Consider speaking with a counselor who specializes in relationships and health challenges, as they can provide personalized guidance for your specific situation.

Talk, play, touch, experiment within your means. don’t shut down. Learn there is more to sex than intercourse. Small things make big impacts.

Your husband is not being very considerate of you/your condition. I think.

Dear Robin B — How old is your husband? I couldn’t do it every day when I was 22! As others have already said, your mate needs to generate some understanding. Top priority: joint therapy (which made the difference in my marriage surviving for 55 years and counting). If he won’t do it, get therapy on your own—you’ll cope and grow; he likely won’t. Short of that, or in addition, do some serious sex research. I learned more new things about ways to have sex than I’d previously learned in 70 years of life—things you can do together with little burden on you yet satisfaction for him. Go to a sex toy store and by all means talk to a staff member who knows what you can do with every item in the shop. And then there’s this easy and totally private action: Google something like this: “Explicit passionate sex real couple not porn.” What you’ll get is still porn by some definitions, but it’s also safe, healthy, inventive, and fun stuff where one of you expends all the effort (husband) and one is mostly passive and/or observer (you). It took me two years to battle through the sexual desert induced by radiation and ADT for my high-risk, localized PCa, but now—in our mid/late 70s—my wife and I have overall sex lives that aren’t the same, but satisfy each of us at different levels of frequency and intensity.
