What does elevated liver enzymes mean during Opdivo and Yervoy treatment?

I was diagnosed in 2021 with RCC and had right kidney removed. In 2025, metastacized to adrenal gland. Had one gland completely removed and other partially removed. Found a small lesion subcutaneous lumbar. Started immunotherapy of Opdivo and Yorvoy about 3 weeks ago. Only side effects seems to be skin itching. Was supposed to have second infusion yesterday but was canceled because liver enzyme was high. Needless to say, not having a great day today - kind of stressed out.

Elevated liver enzymes during immunotherapy can be concerning, but they're actually a relatively common side effect that oncology teams monitor closely and often manage successfully. While it's completely understandable to feel stressed when treatment gets delayed, many patients are able to resume their immunotherapy once enzyme levels stabilize, sometimes with dose adjustments or additional monitoring. The medical team's careful attention to these lab values shows they're prioritizing safety, and this proactive approach often helps patients continue their treatment journey more safely in the long run.

Hoping things work out and you can get what you need. Sending positive/healing vibes your way. I was just diagnosed with RCC. Still very overwhelmed with all the tests, imaging and doctors appointments. Brain on overload with all the new vocabulary. Thought the alphabet soup was bad in Education field but the medical field has a whole new soup. Then when they explain it you still don’t understand because they are speaking doctor. I’ll get the hang of it by the time this journey is over.

Liz, it will begin to make sense. I agree it's very overwhelming and I still get very stressed out. The community agent said the same things my oncologist told me so I'm trying to stay positive. I thought I was on a well laid out timeliness and I hate that it has to be revised. Although I am very glad the doctor read the labs and let me know right away. Keep your chin up!
