My Journey with Rare Eye Cancer

I had a squamous cell carcinoma on my eyeball! It took 5 years to find it. My cornea specialist found it. But it was too late. I went through 4 rounds of chemo & a round of radiation! Nothing helped. Finally I got to Dr Paul Finger. THE best ocular oncologist. 2 years ago he wanted to take out my eye! I just couldn’t do that. We tried everything. Finally on April 18 25 they took out my left eyeball out! The left side of my head has been numb ever since. Finally the numbness is dissapating. It’s just by my nose & upper lip now. The cancer is VERY rare. I couldn’t find anyone to share with. Until I found this site. I see better with one eye than 2!I drive better than before. I’m very grateful. Thanks for listening Mak Steinbock

Thank you for sharing this incredibly challenging journey and for finding the strength to connect with others who understand. Ocular squamous cell carcinoma is indeed very rare, which can make the experience feel isolating, but your courage in sharing here helps create the connection and support that makes such a difference. It's remarkable to hear about the positive adaptations you've experienced, and your gratitude shines through despite everything you've endured.
