6 months agoHow many ladies who have had a double mastectomy got to go home the same day and how did it work out? That's what my Stanford surgeon is doing with me.
Accepted Answer
Same-day discharge after double mastectomy is becoming more common at some medical centers, though experiences can vary widely from person to person. Many factors influence whether this approach works well, including individual recovery patterns, pain management, and having strong support at home. It would be helpful to hear from others in this community who have been through similar experiences to learn about their recovery journeys and what helped them prepare for going home the same day.

6 months ago🙋‍♀️. It wasn’t that bad and I was so happy to be home and able to rest. Make sure you have someone there to help with food, and toileting. That was the thing I need the most. It took a few days before I could pull down my own pants.

6 months agoMy surgeon said the same thing. I will be going home on the same day. I think it's outrageous nowadays how they literally kick you out of the hospital when you've just had a major procedure. I'm going in on June 12th for a single.

6 months agoI had a double mastectomy on March 03, 2025. The surgery lasted about 7 hours. I was in recovery for about 2 hours, I had complications from anesthesia so I had to stay an extra hour. I was discharged the same day, a lot of my family and friends were shocked it’s same day surgery. I needed assistance with using the restroom, showering and opening my medication bottles. I had breast expanders in, this was painful for me. I used Tylenol, ibuprofen and CBD oil drops. My recovery has been difficult, not to worry you but just a long journey. I thought I would feel like myself again after the surgeries. I don’t feel like myself at all. I had reconstructive surgery on May 07, 2025 I am recovering from that right now, I developed an infection and I have to go back into surgery, I’m worried for that. As I read peoples journeys I see how they have recovered and what has helped them.

6 months agoI hear a lot of you ladies using the CBD oil. Can one of you sweet ladies tell me about how many milligrams of it and do you take it orally? I’ll be having my surgery on June 10 and trying to get my priorities in order but it seems like the CBD oil helps with the itching. I suppose any input would be great thank you in advance.

6 months agoHi Marlene I use about 35 mm, it goes under my tongue. I hold it there for about 10-20 seconds. This helps me with my pain, appetite and insomnia.

6 months agoI was supposed to .. But they couldn't get my BP up, and since I lived 45 mins away, the Dr was worried if there was a problem, getting back to the hospital.... especially during rush hour, so I landed up spending the night

6 months agoI had my double mastectomy 3 days ago. I had to stay an extra hour also because my blood pressure was to low. Came home same day. I haven't had to take any pain meds. I don't have a sore throat but my throat feels swollen and when I swallow it feels like it can't go down.

6 months agoI went home the same day after a double mastectomy. The only problem was the drains. I needed help with that. They were removed 2 weeks later and I healed fine with no complications.

6 months agoI think an over night stay after major surgery is best plan and I don’t know what dictates that. Maybe Dr ? maybe insurance? I had a dbl mastectomy and was so grateful my Dr had me stay overnight. Was there 23 hours. It really helped me adjust to the drains and all the stuff. Then, had another major surgery this week -hip replacement surgery- and they kick you out as soon as you’re awake and can walk down the hallway and pee. I don’t understand how they see the difference.
