I had a double mastectomy yesterday October 14 and I’m scheduled for my DIEP flap October 21

Recovery after DIEP flap surgery looks different for everyone, so the timing and level of pain can vary, and the surgical team is the best source for what to expect and how to manage discomfort. Writing down questions before the October 21 surgery, such as how pain will be managed and what to do if it feels stronger than expected, can help the visit feel more prepared. Others in this Surgery and Recovery community may be willing to share what helped them during DIEP flap recovery, and this is a safe place to ask more questions as the surgery date gets closer.

You are extremely fortunate that your DIEP surgery was scheduled so close to your mastectomy! My bilateral mastectomy was March 25th and I FINALLY got a DIEP surgery date of Feb. 20, 2027. The expanders and the emotional ups and downs during this waiting game are taking their toll.
