Can oncologist recommend pool as medically necessary for cancer care?

I’m looking at putting in a pool for future exercise and health. I thought it would help keep my boys busy. In researching, it seems a plunge pool is best so that I can exercise, manage sanitation, and use year round in South Carolina. It has numerous health benefits and can support recovery. Has anybody had their oncologist writes a suggest as medically necessary? Does anybody have experience with this? It will take the weight off my breast once I’m cleared. It seems positive for mental health. I want to keep active, return to activity and avoid public pools, guns, etc the next year as I start treatment.

While medical necessity letters for pools are uncommon, some oncologists may provide documentation for therapeutic exercise equipment when it supports specific treatment goals like lymphedema management or joint mobility. Water-based exercise can indeed be beneficial during cancer recovery, offering low-impact movement while reducing strain on healing tissue. Consider discussing with your oncology team how aquatic therapy fits into your overall recovery plan, and you might also explore whether your insurance covers medically supervised aquatic therapy programs as an alternative or starting point.
