If you get a mastectomy with no reconstruction so you are flat do you still have to do any screen like ultrasound or MRI?

My doctor told me, it will just be physical exams after the double mastectomy. My family doctor told me that if I ever felt like I wanted to check out an area after double mastectomy, she would do an ultrasound on the area. Hope this helps

I had double mastectomy 6/9/22 I had DIEP reconstruction and I have Ultrasounds. I have major scar tissue on my left side so they are checking it every 6 months. I’m going to another Plastic surgeon at end of month to get a second opinion on resolving my scar tissue.

Thank you for your question Naomi. Feel free to get in touch with one of our oncology nurse practitioners via the Ask Outcomes4Me button at the bottom of the app Home Screen. I am sure another patient will share their experience but I wanted to ensure you were also aware of that resource we offer to patients. Thank you!

I had mastectomies on both breasts and no longer require mammograms or sonograms. I only get PET scans yearly. I want to add that I have reconstructed breast ( my own tissue).
