This community has many members who have navigated similar treatment journeys and understand the mixed feelings that can come with approaching surgery after completing chemotherapy. Consider sharing more about what specific aspects of the experience you'd like to hear about - whether it's recovery tips, what to expect, or emotional support - as this can help others provide the most relevant insights from their own paths through treatment.

Hi Nicole! My surgery is pending. Or for several more months. So I unfortunately can't give you personal insight from my experience yet . What kind of surgery are you going to have? I guess a mastectomy?

Just curious, i am newly dx but yet to be staged.. my surgeon said that if I was stage 4 then they don’t even offer surgery. Anyone hear this as well?

Caitlin, that is my understanding. Stage 4 does not involve surgery.

I am stage 4 and did have surgery because I only have one metastatic sight. Oligometastatic breast cancer can be treated aggressively for the best chance of a cure. I was treated by Stanford.

@CaitlinG. I am stage 4 and my oncologist said the same. Basically no use doing surgery essentially the cat is already out of the bag.

After chemo I had a bilateral mastectomy. My cancer was in the left breast but had several positive nodes on the right side. My Oncologist was hoping for an occult( didn't show up on imaging)cancer in the right breast as a best case scenario. Unfortunately there was nothing in the right breast so I am considered metastatic. Very weird and unusual!
