Seeing the surgeon thursday to decide what I want and need. Invasive ductal carcinoma @ DCIS ,hormone + and HR2 -, all in right breast. I have 17yr old implants and I'm leaning toward mastectomy there are 3 spots and 1 is very close to ripple. I'm wondering if I should do both breast so I do not have to fear this coming back and so I'm symmetrical. Sandy

This is such a significant decision, and it's completely natural to weigh all the factors like you're doing before meeting with your surgeon. Many people in this community have faced similar choices about bilateral procedures, considering both medical and personal factors like symmetry and peace of mind. Your surgeon will be the best person to discuss the pros and cons based on your specific situation and help guide you through the decision-making process. Wishing you clarity and confidence as you navigate this important conversation on Thursday.

Hi Sandy! I'm going back and forth as well about lumpectomy vs double mastectomy. I have invasive ductal and DCIS, hormone +, and HER2 neg in my left breast. Originally, my biopsy showed a 7mm mass. However, they did additional testing and found cells in the axilla area. My surgeon says the lumpectomy should be sufficient with some radiation. But I'm still considering a double mastectomy. I have about 1-2 weeks to decide while I finish all my consultations with all these specialists. I'm seeing so many various stories on what others did. I know it's a personal decision but I'm kinda stuck deciding 😕

Sandy, my was the same as yours, invasive ductal carcinoma and ductal carcinoma in situs, just the left breast. I talked to the surgeon and she recommended a mastectomy just for the left breast. She told me that it was healthier to keep the healthy breast. I fallowed her advise!! I got my surgery October 24th with direct reconstruction placing a silicone implant from the mentor brand. I didn’t need chemo or radiation (lucky me). I don’t have the gene mutation, which it was a relief. For my right breast my plastic surgeon did a lift for both breast to be aligned and they are. I am happy with my decision, things will never be the same but I am doing well. I am 64 years old, 36B, and I decided to stay 36B. I am doing my treatment by taking my medication everyday. Not many side effects so far and I am happy by that as well. My oncotype score was 10! I will be taking medication for 5 long years 🥲! I can’t do anything about this! I exercise every single day by either walking or running. Eat as well as possible, but I am not a fanatic of what food I should eat. I don’t want to create a crazy life environment by checking everything I eat. I hope this will help you! Remember, we are all different what works for me, might not work for you. My suggestion is to ask questions, and if in doubt, get a second opinion! It is your breast and your life! Fight for it👍.
