9 months agoI had my mastectomy 1/24/25. 7 years after having a lumpectomy on the same breast with radiation. I opted for an extender. I’ve had so much pain and pressure. How long does this pain last? The dr said we are in no rush to put the silicon implant in, to give my breast tissue time to expand. Now I think I’m having an infection and taking antibiotics to help. I’m 71, and usually healthy and active. Has anyone been through this, how did you handle it and at what point does the pain get better? I’m doubting myself for doing this.

Recovery from mastectomy with tissue expander typically involves several weeks to months of healing, with pain and pressure gradually decreasing over time as tissues adjust to the expansion process. Many community members have shared that staying in close contact with their surgical team about pain levels and potential signs of infection is crucial during this recovery period, and it's completely normal to have questions about the timeline and process.

6 months agoI had my surgery Feb 7th double mastectomy with expanders! Have not had any saline out in because I had to go back to have more lymph nodes removed. That was March 14th and was doing pretty good but tonight all the pressure and pain are back! Kinda feeling like I want to get the expanders out because I feel that is causing all the pressure and pain????? Has anyone else had pain like this 6 weeks after surgery?? Is it the expanders or just normal healing???

6 months agoI had my surgery on 2/26, and I've experienced what you have. I kind of grinned and bared, thinking it was normal, but I can't imagine returning to work anytime soon. This past Wednesday, I started feeling nauseous with cold chills and a fever.. I called the doctor, and they put me on antibiotics. Today (Friday), my wound started opening up, and fluid started literally pouring out. Now I'm scheduled for surgery Monday morning to have that expander removed. Trust your instincts and call your doctor. I hope everything goes well for you.

6 months agoOh my goodness. I don't know what type of infection this is, but staph is aweful. I hope you're doing better.
