2 years agoI had bilateral mastectomy with tissue expanders places and still have so much pain. My sternum feels broken and there is so much pain in it! My surgery was on October 31st so I shouldn’t have so much pain!! Is this normal for anyone else?
Accepted Answer
Pain following bilateral mastectomy with tissue expanders can persist for several weeks or even months as the body heals from this major surgery. The sternum area often experiences significant discomfort due to the surgical trauma and the stretching required for tissue expansion, so what you're experiencing may be part of the normal healing process, though it's always important to discuss ongoing pain concerns with your surgical team to ensure proper recovery.

6 months ago5 days after I wrote this, I ended up in the hospital septic with a staph infection in my left tissue expander. Had surgery to remove that and it has been a struggle to recover from that. Thank you for the prayers!

6 months agoHi Michelle, I went through the same process almost 2 years ago with the discomfort of the tissue expanders only I didn't get any infections or anything. The expanders were remove and I now have implants which are just as uncomfortable too but my reconstruct isn't complete yet due to some other unforseen issues occurred so reconstruct has been put on hold. It's all a struggle for us and alot to take on and deal with. May you have a healthy recovery & my prayers 🙏🏽 and blessing 🙌🏽 are with you. Stay strong💪🏾 we are warrior's 💗
