What's radical prostatectomy recovery like for Stage IIB prostate cancer?

I have intermediate-risk, Stage IIB prostate cancer and my doctor has explained that radical prostatectomy is one of my treatment options. This surgery would involve removing my entire prostate gland, and possibly some nearby lymph nodes to check if the cancer has spread. I'm trying to learn more about what this experience might be like from people who have been through it. I'd really appreciate hearing from others who had a similar diagnosis and chose this surgical route. • What was your recovery experience like after radical prostatectomy? • What do you wish you had known before making your treatment decision? Thanks for sharing your experiences with me.

Recovery experiences after radical prostatectomy can vary quite a bit from person to person, but many community members have found it helpful to connect with others who've walked this path. This is exactly the kind of valuable discussion where hearing real experiences from fellow patients can provide insights that complement what medical teams share about the procedure and healing process.

I had Stage IIB prostate cancer. My Gleason scores were 6, 6, 7 so it was medium aggressive carcinoma. I did 6 weeks external radiation and now it’s gone. Minimal side effects.

For me, probably wishing Dr’s had better images. After inserting camera before robotic prostate removal , the Surgeon said he thought my organs were too close to successfully tie back in after removal.

Okay. Radical in 2015. Quick recovery. Ultra sensitive psa testing for 8 yrs. Re-occurrence. Targeted Radiation for 40 days. In remission as of 2023. Wasn’t told about 40% have reoccurring after radical. Both seem to have worked so far. 😊
