2 years agoI've had bc twice, once each breast. 12 years apart. First time triple positive. 42 years old. Stage 2 grade 3. Partial mastectomy, Chemo, herceptin for a year, radiation and tamoxifen for three years. Got fibroids and stopped.Breast reduction surgery twice to even out. Last year, second diagnosis stage 0 dcis high grade. Surgery, lumpectomy, Radiation 54 years old. I've decided not to do hormone treatment. I'm scared because clearly I'm high risk. Was wondering if I got it again and have to get a double mastectomy hoping that it hasn't spread, could I still get reconstruction after having radiation on both breasts? Hi.

Breast reconstruction after radiation is often possible, though it can be more complex and may require specialized techniques or timing considerations that a plastic surgeon experienced with post-radiation cases would need to evaluate. Many people in similar situations have successfully had reconstruction, so it's encouraging that you're thinking ahead about your options. Consider discussing this with both your oncologist and a reconstructive surgeon who can assess your specific situation and explain what approaches might work best given your treatment history.
