I'm having a mastectomy on right side on the 27th. Do I need a mastectomy bra for surgery does wearing one help with comfort and sleeping? I've heard a pillow is helpful

Many patients find that post-mastectomy bras and supportive pillows can really help with comfort during recovery, especially when sleeping or moving around. Consider asking your surgical team about their specific recommendations for your situation, as they'll know what works best with your particular procedure and healing needs.

I had a lumpectomy last year and a double mastectomy this year and the mastectomy bra helps immensely, they will probably give you a compression bra or ace bandage after surgery that you will wear until your postop appointment and likely a sports bra afterwards. I also got a postmastectomy pillow that I would highly recommend (although not necessary) it feels like a layer of protection and I found it easier to sleep while wearing it. Great for riding in the car also.

They put one on me after my mastectomy. Drains are the worse. I wish I would have done immediate reconstruction and lift on the other breast at same time. Now I have to go back for reconstruction and lift with drains again. Mastectomy was 9 months ago. I’m still not sure I want to go through it again but I don’t want to be lopsided either.

I'm doing a prosthetic instead of reconstruction

If the bra is fitted properly you should wear it all around the clock and you will feel somewhat comfortable
