Finally got my surgery date it’s August 7 and at my hospital here it’s a outpatient surgery which is unusual to me you go in you get the surgery and you go home the same day Has anyone else experienced this ? Not that it makes me nervous of course I’m happy to go home because that’s where I’m most comfortable but I’m also confused because I thought it was major surgery I would like to hear Some feedback on this. Definitely feeling a little anxious not only to have to go through surgery but for the fact of losing my breast which I know in my right mind is the best choice for me but it’s still distressing.

Yes, outpatient breast surgery is quite common now - many hospitals have moved to same-day discharge for certain procedures as techniques have improved and recovery protocols have become more refined. The mix of emotions around surgery and the changes that come with it are completely understandable, and this community is here to support each other through these challenging times.

Hi Mary, All of it is indeed distressing. You have every right to feel that way. This is extremely hard to deal with, at least it is for me. Yes, they send you home the same day. I stayed one day because my family insisted on it with the doctors. I still don't understand why we are pushed away so quickly as this is a major surgery. Be sure you have extra pillows and anything else that will make you comfortable. I ended up purchasing a lift recliner, just in case. People shouldn't run to do this, but it has helped me so much. Also, make sure you insist on pain meds. I hate meds, but I definitely needed them. The bra they put on you is ok, but at some point it may become uncomfortable. It did for me, so I purchased a Hanes brand that is super comfy and I still use it because I'm still recovering. All the best to you. The first two to three weeks are hard, then it gets a little better. But the recovery is tough and a bit long. But, you got this! We all do! I am here for you💕

Mary, Sleeping propped up may be the most comfortable. It was for me and still is a little. That's why I purchased the recliner as well. I still sleep on it and it helps me get up from the chair. Look into supplies at Amazon for comfortable things to wear. Tops that hold your drains. Tops that button up in the front. Tops that snap off from one or both sides. I purchased way too many of them, don't do that. Get yourself at least two. Make sure you have pajamas or pants that are easy to take off and put on. Especially for bathroom time. Speaking of bathroom time. This may be too much TMI. But, the meds may make you constipated, so prepare for that. Doctors will not tell you everything.

Nil T. Thank you for the information. It is very good to know what to expect. I already have a good recliner so I’m ok with that. I think the tops on Amazon are a bit pricey so I’m going to look for some zip up or button up tops at some dept stores! Thanks again!❤️

Yes make sure you have a couple of bras ready for afterwards even though the one that the hospital gives you is fine. Sleepwear that buttons up the front. Small breast shaped ice packs. Light food… broth, applesauce or whatever you use for stomach ease.

Hi Mary, I agree with you, I am having surgery on October 30 as an outpatient which concerns me but I rather come home afterwards. I hope all is well now Eileen 🦋
