I was diagnosed with stage 4 tonsil cancer last month. I have not yet started treatment. 33 days of radiation and weekly chemo. Has anybody gone through this? Any advise . I am currently feeling overwhelmed and would appreciate any information from someone that has dealt with this.

The treatment plan ahead can feel overwhelming, and those feelings are completely valid when facing such a significant journey. Many community members here have walked similar paths with radiation and chemotherapy combinations and often share valuable insights about managing treatment schedules, coping strategies, and what to expect during recovery. This community is full of people who understand what this experience is like and are ready to offer support and practical advice from their own treatment journeys.

My spouse has stage 3-4 squamous cell cancer of the base of his tongue.Diagnosed in December started 7 weeks radiation and 5 chemo with Cisplatin weekly. No surgery due to cardiac history. He needed 2 teeth extractions prior to starting which delayed starting treatment till March 2nd. Chemo ok except for renal side effects requiring change to carboplatin. No radiation side effects till week 4 then dehydration required g tube placement and feedings4x a day. He’s now 6 weeks post treatment and not able to eat due to continued secretions and painful cough.G tube feeding continues.Everyone is different so you can’t compare yourself to others. You need a good supportive family and friends to help you through.I will keep you in my prayers.

I just finished 7 weeks chemo and 34 radiation treatments. Hang in there it was rough I lost 60 lbs still no taste But finally able to force 2000 calories a day. Very curable cancer but roughest treatment and side effects Just stay strong. I did not get the tube feeding. But that’s why I lost 60 lbs still

My husband is still having throat pain and constant secretions. 7 weeks post radiation and chemo for tongue cancer. He’s on tube feeds as he can’t eat any solids. Was just at ED for postural hypotension. Sodium levels are below normal.Such a devastating life change.
