Why Do I Need a Bone Density Test Before Reconstruction Surgery?

There is so much to do before my reconstruction surgery. I am 65, and I presuming this is partly due to my age. I have to have physical therapy to tone my body where they are taking the tissue for the reconstruction , but a bone density test?

Bone density tests before reconstruction surgery help doctors understand how strong your bones are, which can affect healing and surgical planning. Pre-surgical testing like this, along with physical therapy, helps ensure the best possible outcomes for your reconstruction - it's all about setting you up for success in your recovery journey.

Hi Betsy. I needed a bone density test as a baseline because I was put on Anastrozole (estrogen blocker) after my surgery and it can cause loss of bone density. It may have to do with that and not the surgery itself.
