a year agoI had to have 37 lymph nodes removed with my single mastectomy. Has anyone else had that many? I had 6 of them positive with extranodal extension, which sucks. I’m asking because I’m still completely numb under my arm.
Accepted Answer
Having 37 lymph nodes removed is indeed a significant number, and the numbness you're experiencing under your arm is a common side effect that many people in this community have dealt with after extensive lymph node removal. Others here have shared similar experiences with both high lymph node counts and the ongoing numbness, so you're definitely not alone in this recovery journey.

6 months agoI had 22 removed and 2 were positive, one with an extranodal extension. This was in April. I am numb but recently I have started feeling tingling and the dreaded nerve itch 😂. It's weird at first but you get used to it. Eventually you may get most if not all of the feeling back.

6 months agoI had 12 lymph nodes removed in 2018. The feeling is never the same. There is some sort of numbness left , at least for me.

6 months agoI had 190 removed from me, currently at 36 years old. Had a double mastectomy with reconstruction of tissue from my back, stomach, arms, and neck. It hurts like heck. Was unable to walk for 4 days. My urine is still bloody red and I hemorrhaged 5 times. Not a fun sight.

6 months agoSally, Whoa! You are amazing. Sorry for the long post and I will pray for you. I had 3 lymph nodes removed, all negative. My cancer in left breast was triple positive. Had a bilateral mastectomy, with abdominal flap done for reconstructive. I am 64 , The procedure took 9 and a half hours. I also woke up after surgery deaf in my right ear . Recovery was supposed to be 6weeks, but took 12 due to healing complications. It was a journey for sure. Came home with 6 drains. The body is amazing and it needs time. But there were moments I would look at myself through the mirror and see the ugly infection and scars and think will this ever heal? But it did , after some grueling appointments and debris removals. I kept saying nothing to it but to do it and thanked God it was caught. Our bodies will never be what they were, But blessed to be here. I hope your healing journey continues with no infections. We are wound care specialists! I just finally am gauze free from my surgery in May! I hope your pain subsides quickly. I do have to have another surgery in December for more abdominal repair. This is and will be a new journey for all of us, really hoping for all of us to be cured and cancer free. No looking back only forward to my new healthy body and more time with friends and family! Sending love and hugs!

6 months agoWhen they make the incision under the arm. They cut through the nerves so it will stay numb. You can get some sensation back, but nerves grown very very slow. I have the same issue on one side, the others I asked her to really spend more time inside so as not to disrupt the nerves and she did

In the behavioral health being that I'm also Schizophrenic. They sometimes take care of me. Depending on how their day is going. They also have Cancer. So I know they are hurting too.

6 months agoI know exactly what you’re feeling. I had 17 removed-never knew of the removal until I told my radiologist about numbness Surgeon told my husband but neither of them informed me of anything about the cancer diagnosis. She put me under general anesthesia for the mastectomy took place. Somebody signed the consent in my name. I realize this sounds crazy-but I no longer trust my husband, he was fully in formed of my condition. Im now scheduled for a Pet Scan. I’m really terrified(because I don’t know what it is) but husband and surgeon tell me I’ve already had one and I was fine during it. I have no memory of the scan or if it was a bad experience. I fear this entire horror will lead to a divorce after 52 years of marriage.
