6 months agoHi, I have a rare high-grade Sarcomatoid type Urothelial Carcinoma of the bladder. My tumor was removed on May 5th. I’m awaiting a PET scan on 6/10. I understand I will be seeing Dr. Bradley McGregor at Dana Farber, but I don’t have a scheduled appointment. I also have a scheduled surgery for bladder removal on 6/16. The question is, do I need chemotherapy or a cancer treatment before surgery? Dr. Matthew Hayn, a Urologist with Maine Health is my surgeon. I will also have a complete hysterectomy. My Oncologist Dr. Daniel Lieber is treating the cancer as if it has penetrated my bladder wall. My one CT scan showed no evidence of cancer outside the bladder or in any surrounding lymph nodes. I’m waiting for more definitive reasons for cancer treatment before surgery and how long will I need Chemotherapy before surgery? I’m afraid not having surgery soon will give the cancer time to metastasize. Any one who has had this cancer and can share information would be appreciated.

The timing of chemotherapy before bladder removal surgery is a complex decision that depends on many individual factors that only the medical team can fully evaluate. Having questions about treatment timing is completely understandable, especially when balancing the benefits of pre-surgical treatment against concerns about disease progression. The medical team will likely use results from the upcoming PET scan along with other clinical information to determine the best treatment sequence. Many patients find it helpful to prepare a list of specific questions about treatment timing and expected outcomes to discuss during consultations, and connecting with others who have navigated similar treatment decisions can provide valuable perspective and support.

6 months agoI just had a peripheral sheath tumor removed from my neck part of the soft tissue sarcoma family. I don’t really have any info because I just found out Thursday. I have an appointment with a Sarcoma Specialist at Stanford on Wednesday. I have a very small clear tumor margin. I can update you more after my appointment. Good luck and wishing you the best.

6 months agoThanks for responding. Wishing the best for your prognosis and healthy future. I will be having a 2nd opinion with a Oncologist at Dana Farber rwo days after a PET scan. I hope no more cancer will be found and I can move forward with the best procedure. Removing my bladder on 6/16 or having Chemotherapy and immunotherapy for 12 weeks, resting for 3 to 4 weeks then bladder removal. With the type of cancer I have it being rare and fast growing I’m afraid. There is no guarantee the cancer treatments will work. But the treatments are to safeguard the fact if the cancer is anywhere else in my body it will be gone and it is suppose to give me a better outcome after bladder removal.
