Does anyone have experience on 3D tattoo versus actual nipple reconstruction after bilateral mastectomies? I’m trying to make the decision on which to do.

This is such an important decision to consider, and it's completely understandable to want input from others who have walked this path. Both 3D nipple tattoos and surgical nipple reconstruction offer different benefits and considerations - from recovery time and appearance to personal comfort levels. Many community members have shared their experiences with both options here, which can help provide valuable perspectives as you weigh what feels right for your situation and goals.

I did a 3 D tattoo and was happy with it. I wasn’t given the option of nipple reconstruction as I had an infection after my mastectomy. The tattoo artist matched the color and size of my other nipple perfectly. From a distance it looks the same. It is not painful!

I had skin-sparring double mastectomy with silicone cohesive implants. I considered the 3 D tattoo but noticed my side profile, the middle of the implanted breast looked a little flat. I underwent nipple reconstruction 4 weeks ago and am very pleased with my breast appearance.
