5 months agoHi, I was diagnosed w Inflammatory breast cancer Oct. 2020. Had right side masectomy chemo and radiation. Doctors say I'm 3yrs out from diagnosis. Still have lymphadema on and off mostly on, and pain and numbness in shoulder back, ribs, and underarm that side. Does anyone know typical lifespan of person w immflamatory breast cancer? All the internet sites kinda scare me stating about 8yrs. And I'm 3yrs out.....and is it 8yrs with treatment or without? Any solutions for lymphadema besides exercise? The lymphadema clinic left from here.....

Survival statistics can feel overwhelming and scary, but remember that every person's journey is unique and many factors influence outcomes beyond what general statistics show. The 8-year figure often mentioned for inflammatory breast cancer typically refers to overall survival rates with treatment, but these statistics are based on older data and treatments continue to improve. Managing side effects like lymphedema and pain is challenging - many find relief through compression garments, manual lymphatic drainage massage, or working with physical therapists who specialize in oncology. Consider discussing these ongoing symptoms with your oncology team, as they may have resources or referrals for lymphedema management even if the local clinic closed.
