2 years agoHi I’m new, diagnosed last week, first post (*I see there’s another Laurie M here, hey girl! 👋🏻) …anyway, wondering how long y’all had to wait between diagnosis and surgery? I realize everyone and every situation is different but was just curious what the typical ballpark range is? Thanks

Welcome to the community! The time between diagnosis and surgery can vary quite a bit depending on factors like the type and stage of cancer, insurance approvals, and scheduling with your surgical team. Many community members have shared experiences ranging from a few weeks to a couple of months, and it's completely normal to feel anxious about the timing while waiting for your surgery date.

6 months agoI think the range is roughly 2 to 4 months. Mine was close to the 4 month mark. Barring anything concerning about your providers, I think the time frame for this may be based on what kind of cancer you have. There are some fast growing cancers and slow growing ones. May be based on other things too such as type (DCIS vs IDC vs ?), size of tumor, for many, etc

6 months agoLaurie, I was diagnosed in December, started chemo in February and am scheduled for a mastectomy in August. I had imaging done at the halfway point in chemo and my tumor has shrunk 75%. You are correct in stating every breast cancer is different with different approaches to treatment. Keep us posted and take care. This is a long journey.

6 months agoI found the lumps in the end of January, got my positive biopsy results on Feb 13, and was in surgery for a bilateral mastectomy by April 2nd. I have an advocate at the hospital who recommended to let the schedulers know when you’re making an appointment that you are willing to jump into any cancelled appointments that come up (if you are able to fit it in, cuz you know, life 😁). You’d be surprised at how you might get moved up.

6 months agoI was dx 2/27 and had my surgery 3/29. I had my radiation mapping last week and my first radiation is next week for 15 days. It all was so fast. I want to get this behind me.

6 months agoI was diagnosed May 8 with IDC er/pr+ her- grade 2 stage 1a and am scheduled for lumpectomy June 14. Super fast but feels like forever in some ways and too fast in others. Ready to get this behind me for sure tho! Prayers for everyone!

6 months agoDiagnosed July 2023 at 58. IDC, er/pr+ her-, grade 1 stage 1b. Did not do BRCA gene testing. Started anastrolzole shortly after diagnosis while waiting for Oncotype DX results. Oncotype score 2. I chose to wait for surgery to see if anastrozole would shrink my tumor. Tumor did not shrink and Lumpectomy was done May 10th. Pathology showed no residual cancer in tumor or 9 lymphnodes. Restaged to 0. Consult with radiation oncologist in 2 weeks.
