5 months agoI was diagnosed with neuroendocrine CA of my terminal ilium 2 1/2 years ago. They also found a nodule on right sub hilar lung. I had a right hemicolectomy including my terminal ileum. I proceeded to have 30 tracks of radiation and 4 3 day sessions of chemo (Etoposide & Cisplatin). I am now 2 years CA free and they’ve pulled my mediport. I continue to have bouts of severe diarrhea which my gastroenterologist says there is nothing much they can do for it. I’m thankful I’m CA free but wish the diarrhea would go away. Has anyone out there had a similar experience?

Congratulations on being cancer-free for two years - that's a significant milestone worth celebrating. Post-surgical digestive changes can be particularly challenging after terminal ileum removal, as this area plays an important role in nutrient absorption and digestive function. Many survivors in similar situations have found it helpful to connect with others who understand these ongoing effects. Consider asking your care team about referrals to specialists who focus on post-surgical digestive health, as there may be additional management strategies worth exploring.

3 months agoHey Beverly, you're a WINNER! I know diarrhea is not a good thing to suffer from or through but it most certainly is better than the alternative. I'm sure you've probably already tried the obvious stuff, extra fiber and cheese, etc. There are probably other foods that have a somewhat constipation affect that might be helpful? There are also foods that have a diarrheaic affect that you can avoid. Maybe you can seek out a nutritionist for help along those lines. A mental health provider can provide some assistance in dealing with the diarrhea. Counseling is a safe non-judgmental place to open up and explore ideas. I wish you strength and positivity for the difficult road ahead. Take good care.
