7 months agoAllison… I have stage 1 cancer. They right away want to perform a masectomy only because the tumor being located behind the nipple makes them concerned toward a lumpectomy. I said no way to a masectomy. The surgeon then thinking out loud said that maybe they could cut-off the nipple & sew it back on elsewhere. No way will I allow that. All my research screams NO! The doctor on “Botched” states NO! The nipple will die if you do that. They do not perform oconplasty here, so if they think they might need to take a bit more than usual for a lumpectomy they simply jump into cutting out the boob instead. My body will reject a silicone implant due to my autoimmune disease. Oncoplasty is the only thing I would consider where they do a reduction, then use your own breast tissues to rebuild the breast. Or if my tumor shrinks down to near nothing, then a very skilled lumpectomy alone might be enough surgery. The size is 2.3cm or smaller as the Letrozole has been shrinking the tumor.

It's completely understandable to want to explore all your options and advocate for the treatment approach that feels right for you. Many patients in similar situations have found it helpful to seek second opinions from breast surgeons who specialize in oncoplastic techniques, especially when dealing with tumors in challenging locations. The fact that your treatment is already showing positive results gives you valuable time to research experienced surgical teams and discuss all available approaches with specialists who can fully evaluate your specific case.

6 months agoA lot of different people have an opinion on this - and they are varied and opposite. So get good advice but then ultimately you have to feel comfortable with YOUR decision. Nipple grafts do work if they have a good blood supply, but also they can make you another and some of the medical tattoo artists are very good in making it look like you have one!
