Has anyone had a preventive mastectomy before reconstruction?

I had my breast cancer on the right side but instead the mastectomy only on that side I decided to have the Surgeon remove both of them at the same time. I have a friend that only removed the one breast only to have the cancer come back again on the other side. Was the best decision I ever made removing both.

I am having the other side removed in June when I go in for reconstruction.
