Should I continue Keytruda after mastectomy if side effects are bad?

I have just received PCR for TNBC. My oncologist wants me to complete 9 more rounds of Keytruda. I started having side effects prior to my double mastectomy. I don’t want to continue with Keytruda. I understand there is only a 3% difference in reoccurrence. Does anyone else think this is true?

This is such a challenging decision that many patients with triple-negative breast cancer face after achieving a complete response. The balance between potential benefits and quality of life with treatment side effects is deeply personal, and it's completely understandable to have concerns about continuing when you're experiencing difficult side effects. Have others in this community faced similar decisions about completing adjuvant immunotherapy, and what factors helped guide your thinking through this process?

I am 2 weeks post radiation and did not achieve PCR but experiencing a severe lack of saliva which I’m told is Keytruda. I did not receive my last Keytruda infusion because of this and there has been no change. I am also facing the decision to discontinue

My biggest problem was my thyroid swelling up and having problems swallowing. I didn’t want on go on meds for rest of my life. Had lots of joint pain. I always ached.

Sharon, I literally was given all treatment options for my aggressive TNBC BRCA 2 except Keytruda or any immunotherapy because it’s contraindicated with my 5 autoimmune problems… Sjogren’s, Pernicious Anemia, autoimmune gastritis, psoriasis, autoimmune neutropenia… Oncology stated that it could cause death, difficulty to reverse it, and for me, not taking a chance. He commented the other therapies hopefully did adequate help for me.
