3 years agoI am told that I will need to take a drug called Xeloda if I don’t get a PCR from my chemo plan. Does anyone have any experience with it? What can I expect in regards to side effects?
Accepted Answer
Xeloda is commonly used as an additional treatment option for triple-negative breast cancer, and many community members have shared their experiences with managing its side effects, which can include fatigue, hand-foot syndrome, and digestive issues. It's completely natural to want to know what to expect, and connecting with others who have been through similar treatment journeys can provide valuable insights and support during this time.

6 months agoGoing to start taking Xeloda next week so very anxious on the side effects! They tell me the side effects will be mild compared to the previous chemo. Good luck ladies!

6 months agoI was on Exeloda for six rounds. I had neoadjuvant chemo first followed by a lumpectomy then 30 treatments of radiation. My stage was 1c , TNBC, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I also had micrometastisis in one lymph node. I had sore peeling feet on Exeloda and a rash on my hands, chest legs and feet. My dose was lowered despite my determination to continue to get all of those cancer cells. I felt very tired by the last round.

6 months agoI don’t understand why I wasn’t given chemo prior to my lumpectomy. I have TNBC stage I and just read here that women were getting it with immunotherapy prior to surgery and it was helpful and post surgery doesn’t help at all.

6 months agoI was diagnosed in October 2021 tnbc stage 2. I had chemo first then lumpectomy surgery then radiation. I followed up after with Xeloda . Felt very tired on Xeloda but probably because of all the treatments. Soles of my feet a little sensitive but nothing that bad. The doctor lowered my treatment and I was fine. No other side effects.

6 months agoI had TNBC left side. Stage II however because cancer mass was large (no indication cancer passed through nodes via biopsy, cancer surgery node removal) had AC-T right off the bat, then after surgery, radiation was put on Xeloda/capecitabine. Now Taxol (the ‘T’ in the AC-T treatment) was a nervy drug for me. Developed neuropathy in feet, hands. Xeloda really exacerbated the nervy experience. By the end of 8 cycles of Xeloda, was wearing cotton gloves (found on Amazon) with fingerless leather gloves on top. Xeloda hurt. But seems everyone’s body handles all these drugs differently. Once Xeloda treatment was over, the pain stopped however I have lingering neuropathy. This doesn’t mean you will as well. Most nerve damage goes away. Cera Ve helped ‘calm the pain’ and certainly helped with peeling on bottom of feet

6 months agoJust trying to understand, did anyone reach PCR and then get prescribed Xeloda?
Community Member
6 months agoYes I did- had 30 Proton Therapy treatments with Xeloda M-F - getting to go back on Xeloda for 4 and 1/2 months ( 2 weeks on, 1 week off)

6 months agoI took Zeloda following 16 rounds of chemo, lumpectomy and 2 months radiation following my TNBC diagnosis....I ended up with cornea damage in my right eye caused by Zeloda...apparently a rare side effect.

6 months agoJust tenderness on the hands and feet. You can lose your fingerprints briefly. It’s bearable though. It gets hard swallowing all the pills for awhile. I was taking 4 every morning and 4 at night

6 months agoI did really well on Xeloda. My WBC count was always low but I didn’t feel that. You will do fine if needed but I am praying for a PCR for you!!!

6 months agoI was on Xeloda for a while until it no longer worked. Skin products by Flexitol , ordered on amazon helped tremendously with peeling hands and feet. In fact I’m still using the heel balm and hand balm because I liked them so much. I did lose 4 toenails after about 5 months of being on Xeloda. Apparently this is a rare side effect. Be careful of mouth sensitivity. Use toothpaste and mouthwash designed for sensitive oral hygiene. At least on xeloda, my hair grew back.

6 months agoI also lost 5 toenails a few months after finishing Exeloda.

6 months agoI achevied PCR and still did Xeloda. Hands and feet were sensitive. Hands just felt pruney all the time. But it was doable
