Should I reconsider mastectomy if chemo shrunk my tumors?

I do not want a mastectomy. We did all the chemo and immunotherapy treatments before surgery and still don’t have that surgery for lumpectomy scheduled. I was diagnosed in mid February and first chemo 3/12. I never understood having surgery first if the chemo is meant to shrink tumors which mine has done. You have to hunt for either of them and both were visible. What purpose is there in doing mastectomy first ? And now my tumors are practically gone I see no need now either. I don’t want to go through reconstruction either. That is just not for me.

It's completely understandable to feel conflicted about treatment decisions when your tumors have responded so well to the chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Many patients in the triple-negative breast cancer community face similar questions about surgical options after seeing good responses to their pre-surgical treatments. This is definitely a conversation worth having with your oncology team, as they can help explain the medical reasoning behind different surgical approaches and discuss all your options based on your specific situation and treatment response.
