These severe reactions sound incredibly challenging and concerning. Many Xeloda patients do experience side effects, though the intensity can vary greatly from person to person. It's encouraging that the medical team is monitoring the situation closely and providing supportive care like IV fluids when needed. The hand-foot syndrome and mouth sores are known potential side effects of this treatment, and other community members may have helpful tips for managing these symptoms. Consider discussing dose adjustments or supportive medications with the oncology team, as there are often strategies to help make treatment more tolerable while maintaining its effectiveness.

3 months agoTanya, I also received Xeloda over 3 months at an aggressive dose, and following IV chemo of 4 agents over 6 months. That medication gave me horrible GI symptoms as well and lips blistered, foot ulcers that required debridement and a boot. Fingers blistered too. Regardless, I made myself tolerate it, listening to advice and am now on Lynparza to hit the BRCA gene. Best wishes and prayers…nothing easy but I’m getting through this journey too.

a month agoJust got pulled off the xeloda. Bad reaction for the 2nd time but this one kept me in hospital for 9 days. Going to bathroom up to 30+ times a day. Had to log it. With 4 medications and morphine every 4 hours for the pain. All my organs were inflamed. My body couldn't handle it even at a half dose. Finally home feeling about 30% better. Dr says it will take a good while to get over this.
