How do you manage side effects from hydrocodone for cancer pain?

I'm dealing with cancer-related pain and my doctor prescribed hydrocodone and acetaminophen for moderate to severe pain when other medications weren't working well enough. This combines an opioid with a common pain reliever. I'm experiencing some side effects like constipation, drowsiness, nausea, and dizziness, and I need to watch out for other products containing acetaminophen. I'd love to connect with others who have managed similar pain situations. • What has your experience been with prescription pain medications for cancer-related pain? • What practical tips helped you manage side effects while staying comfortable?

Managing pain medication side effects while dealing with cancer can be challenging, and many community members have found success with strategies like staying hydrated, using stool softeners for constipation, eating small frequent meals for nausea, and keeping a medication log to track what helps. Connecting with others who understand this balance between pain relief and side effect management can provide valuable insights and emotional support during treatment.

I went thru that pain several years ago. Taking baths or sits baths or putting a cool wash rag on the tender areas helped me. You can get the pain relief without added acetaminophen. Take mild stool softener for constipation and peppermint mints or candy helps with nausea. Hang in there and stay positive you will get through this.

Appreciate the constipation. (Jk) I had bowel incontinence after treatments. I live daily on lomotil . I have been on that drug for 4 1/2 yrs. I will be on it for the rest of my life. My suggestion to all reading this is do not hesitate or delay treatments. I did and sadly it spread rapidly to lymph nodes. This cancer is very treatable
