How do you manage severe bone pain from cancer when medications aren't enough?

I have bone cancer and am experiencing severe bone pain. I'm currently taking three pain medications - Gabapentin (gabapentin), oxycodone, and Lortab (hydrocodone plus acetaminophen) - but the pain has become really intense lately. My care team suggested this might mean my current pain management approach needs some changes, and they want to reassess things. I'd love to connect with others who have dealt with severe bone pain during cancer treatment and hear about your experiences. • What has your journey with bone pain management looked like, and what approaches have you tried? • Are there any comfort measures or daily strategies that have helped you get through the tough days?

Managing severe bone pain during cancer treatment often requires a multi-layered approach, and it's encouraging that your care team is ready to reassess your current plan when medications alone aren't providing adequate relief. Many community members have found success combining medical treatments with complementary strategies like heat therapy, gentle movement when possible, relaxation techniques, and creating comfortable environments for rest - though what works best can vary significantly from person to person. Connecting with others who understand this challenging experience can provide valuable insights and emotional support during difficult days.

I have beeast cancer metastasized to bones. I'm currently on hydromorphone (pill form of Dilaudid). It works so much better than oxycodone, but does not put you out like the liquid form of Dilaudid. It just makes me feel MUCH less pain! I am unsure if you have a pain management or paliative care dr. I get mine from paliative care. He works well with people and listens to patients re: their pain levels and how other pain management has not (or has) worked for them. I don't get any kind of "high" feeling, just much less pain so I'm able to carry on with what I need to do etc . I wish you well and hope you can get some relief soon. Take care, warrior!
