What can I expect from chemotherapy after breast cancer surgery?

Chemotherapy can feel overwhelming to think about, but many people find that understanding what to expect helps reduce anxiety about the process. I think it really depends on what chemo drugs you will be on. And everyone is very different in regards how they react and what side effects they experience. I did Docetaxel (taxotere) and carboplatin. With my chemo I had 2 immunotherapy drugs, Herceptin and Perjeta. For me, I’m not gonna lie it sucked!! But it sucked for me because of the ruined taste buds. I was fortunate. Very little nausea. Little diarrhea. I was tired. I moved around slowly. My body felt heavy. I had 6 cycles every 3 weeks. Each cycle did get worse, in my experience. When I started, I felt like I would get a break towards the end of my 3 week cycle, before I was going to receive another round. But towards the end (probably after cycle 4) I felt like I didn’t get a break at all. I really had to push myself to finish. I wanted to quit so bad. I did communicate my side effects and feeling to my oncologist. He bumped my dosage down twice. Thank goodness, I don’t know if I would’ve made it to the end on the full dose! Good luck.
