After 6 years they have now decided it was time to biopsy lung nodules that have a suv of 9.4. They did a pet scan in Oct of last year and I have extensive bone mets. My question now is it even worth going, through this procedure . Kinda late horse is already out of the barn.

This sounds like such a difficult decision to navigate, especially when you're weighing the potential benefits of a procedure against everything you've already been through. Many patients in similar situations find themselves questioning the timing and value of additional procedures, and these concerns are completely understandable. Consider discussing with your medical team how the biopsy results might actually influence your treatment options going forward - sometimes the information can be more valuable than it initially appears, even at later stages.

I had stage 1 er pr positive in 2003. The lung nodule popped up about 6 years ago. They have done ct scans every 3 to 6 mths for the last 6 years, even though radiologist recommended pet or biopsy it was always wait and see.they say it's in a spot where it could collapse my lung. Finally did pet scan and I had extensive bone mets biopsy showed breast cancer lobular. I feel like I fell in a big Crack, if done earlier maybe wouldn't be in my bones.. now do I risk a collapsed lung.

Hi Belinda, thank you for your question. The decision to undergo a biopsy is difficult. If you haven’t had a biopsy of the lung nodule, this procedure allows your oncology provider/team to gather more information about the lung nodules (malignant or not, if malignant is the histology similar to your breast cancer, the biomarker status). Tissue can also be sent off for next-generation sequencing testing, to see what other targeted treatment options there may be for you.
