11 hours agoI was recently diagnosed with DCIS (stage 0 breast cancer) and I'm trying to understand my surgical options. From what I've learned, there are four main approaches: breast-conserving surgery with whole breast radiation, breast-conserving surgery with partial breast radiation (APBI), mastectomy, or breast-conserving surgery alone without radiation for very low-risk cases. It feels overwhelming to weigh all these choices. I'd love to hear from others who have been through similar decisions with DCIS. Your experiences and insights would mean so much as I navigate this. • What factors helped you decide between breast-conserving surgery and mastectomy? • If you had breast-conserving surgery, how did you decide about radiation options?

6 hours agoIt's completely understandable to feel overwhelmed when facing these surgical decisions for DCIS - many patients find this choice particularly challenging because there are multiple valid treatment paths. The factors that often help patients make these decisions include the size and location of the DCIS, personal risk factors, lifestyle considerations, and individual comfort levels with ongoing monitoring versus more definitive treatment. Hearing from others who have walked this path can provide valuable perspective as you work with your medical team to determine the best approach for your specific situation.
