a month agoI had a colostomy done at end of Jan, was in hospital for two weeks. Last two days of hospital stay I rec'd radiation therapy and now the back of my thighs are numb and am suffering severe muscle soreness and weakness bilaterally both legs, has anyone else experienced same symptoms? If so how long did it last? The surgical oncologist and oncologist say it's not related to radiatiin with surgical oncoligist saying it's from the rectal mass pressing on nerves. Feek like I can't trust what any Oncologist tells me. Thank you in advance.

a month agoMany people in the colorectal cancer community report similar symptoms after treatment, and it's completely understandable to feel frustrated when getting different explanations from your medical team. Nerve-related symptoms can have multiple causes during cancer treatment, and it's worth advocating for yourself by asking for clearer explanations or seeking additional opinions if you're not feeling confident in the responses you're receiving. Has anyone else here dealt with similar numbness and weakness issues, and what helped you get the answers you needed?

4 days agoI had a resection done this past Feb 19. Since I had rectal cancer about 2 inches from my sphincter, they took out the sphincter and the next 12 inches. Was in the hospital for 5 days. Honestly, the back spasm pain I had upon awakening from surgery was much worse than the pains from the operation. I spent the next 6 weeks taking oxycodone 4 times a day just so I could get an hour or two of sleep when the Oxy kicked in. I didn't have any nerve pain in other areas as people have mentioned so I guess you can call me lucky. I won't even begin to describe my frustrations with my colostomy bag besides to mention that when the seal breaks it is usually at 2am or 3 am. As I type this now I am at my local laundromat as my washer broke 2 days ago. I think it rebeled as it was sick and tired of dealing with colostomy bag contents. I know how it feels. New washer being installed Monday so things are looking brighter ( and cleaner!)
