4 months agoMy present concern is difficulty swallowing food again. I was already at stage 4 by the time we discovered the adenocarcinoma tumor in my lower esophagus 1 yr ago. They installed a PEG Tube in my stomach though I never actually had to use it. The PEG tube fell out on its own after about 9 months! One year of chemo treatments plus, a three week regiment of radiation which ceased at the end of July 2025 seemed to help, but I’ve recently noticed that the swallowing difficulty is returning. They have scheduled me for a PET scan and an endoscopy in the month of August. Will let you know what they find.

4 months agoI was on 2 chemotherapies as well as immunotherapy as i was diagnosed as stage 4 as well since it had spread to lymph nodes. I am down to one type chemo and immunotherapy every other week. I have had 2 stents placed that helped eating for a bit but currently without a stent . Sometimes food gets stuck which is the main issue I’m having. They are suggesting i get the surgery to remove that part of my esophagus but sounds very invasive so not sure what to do.

4 months agoI had the surgery (esophagectomy). Very invasive, 8 hour plus surgery with 2 surgeons. 12 day hospital stay, 3 month recovery to be able to do stuff again. A couple more to feel normal. I sleep at a 30 degree angle to avoid acid reflux at night. I can eat and swallow anything again. I eat or snack 4-5 times a day ( stomach is now half size) to try to maintain weight. Dehydration can be an issue. Hard to eat and then drink at each meal.
