Hello! My mom's starting Enhertu tomorrow for her breast cancer recurrence. She's now stage 4 HER2+++. If the drug works, will she need to continue Enhertu forever even if there's no evidence of disease? (hoping it will completely eliminate the tumors)

Sending warm thoughts as your mom begins this new treatment journey. Treatment duration with Enhertu varies greatly from person to person, and oncologists typically make decisions about continuing therapy based on how well it's working, side effects, and individual circumstances rather than following a set timeline. Many others in this community have navigated similar questions about HER2+ treatments, and their experiences might offer valuable insights and support during this time.

I am also HER2 triple positive, stage 4. My cancer journey started two years ago next month. I was on Perjeta and Herceptin, March of last year I went into remission but it only lasted 8 months. It came back with two little lumps in my right breast. DR started me on Enhertu in December. My petscan in june showed no active cancer. So I am in remission again. Yes, chemo is forever. There is no cure for stage IV, chemo keeps the cancer dormant. We will always have cancer. Good luck and positive thoughts to your mom. 🙏
